To Speak or Not To Speak…

That is the Question! Play Shakespeare without Fear

Play Shakespeare without fear in this intro/refresher workshop for actors and non-actors alike.

ages: Adults, 17+

This workshop is an introduction or refresher for actors and non-actors alike. Rather than acquiring a “Shakespeare voice” you will learn how to speak Shakespeare’s verse in your own natural and free voice.

We’ll begin with warm-up exercises to relax the body and stretch the breath. Then, we’ll discover iambic pentameter, caesuras, and classical thought. Finally, we’ll undertake a series of activities that will include Encountering the Energy of the Line, Walking the Journey of the Speech, and Owning Every Word. Don’t know what any of that means? Don’t worry, you’ll find out!

We will bring all of this technical knowledge to bear in speaking Shakespeare’s sonnets and monologues aloud. Additionally, you will be working on your voice support and clarity of diction.  It’s a lot, but you will be ready for it!  Together, let’s take the fear out of speaking Shakespeare.
