Sumptuous Sari to Stunning Scarf

Immerse yourself in the beautiful world of the Indian sari and sew a scarf to wear home!

ages: Adults, 12+

India’s textiles have inspired European designs since the opening of the Silk Road. Each sari is a microcosm of that history and rich design experience. Willow’s collection of over 50 vintage silk and cotton saris is a feast for the senses. Come discover the history of the sari, the many ways to wrap a sari, and which saris are meant for weddings, business meetings and even monsoon season! Learn about the sari’s cousin, the salwar kameez, worn by women in South Asia. Willow will guide you in how to buy saris online (what to expect, to avoid and to assess), how to wash vintage silk without harming color and fabric integrity, and more.

For the hands-on portion of the workshop, choose a sari to sew into your own luxurious three-foot-long scarf. Willow will teach techniques for working with silk (it's really not that difficult!) and lead you through her pattern for transforming a sari into a scarf in five easy steps.
